2023年1月30日 · No, in general BMW has used chains on virtually all their engines since the 1990’s; it would be considered a lifetime component. The N20 4 cyl engine prior to 2016 had problems with the plastic chain guides breaking into pieces, I don’t think those engines had chain issues to best of my knowledge.

2019年9月5日 · I wanted to provide an update on this, 2013 BMW X3 F25 N20 engine, car had about 95000 KM on it. I bought all the required tools from the Crank pins, to the flywheel pins, the camshaft holders, etc.

2021年11月27日 · If it were mine, I'd replace the timing chain system myself. If you can't DIY, it may be better to sell it since the TC replacement cost could be half the value of the vehicle due to the labor. Personally, I only looked at 6 cyl models when I was in the market.

The F25 X3 used the N52 I6 engine without the turbocharger prior to the introduction of the N20 engine and is believed by some to be more reliable.
