Aug 2, 2008 · None had any sign of ever being red. Additionally, I have spoken to sources at the factory confirming that there were at least 9 yellow cars and a couple of black cars. In 15 years of judging the turbo Ferrari's, I have never seen a US version in any factory color other than red/red.

Jan 13, 2005 · The F40 LM was replaced by the F40 GTE (Gran Turismo Evoluzione) which was also built by Michelotto and fitted with carbon brakes and XTRAC sequential gearbox, using engines of up to 3.6 liter to find more torque (due to smaller restrictors imposed in 1996). There were seven cars built and they represent the ultimate evolution of the F40 series.

That's what I was thinking...the GTO evolved from the 308, and the F40 evolved from the GTO, so it's not a terrible stretch to make an F40 clone from a 308. Plus timing on the F40 is feels right as a real push in demand from incoming next gen big collectors (core Ferrari target) who have the '90s as their starting point, and want the original F40 in their collection to be driven. They're less interested in older cars. The GTO is a no brainer.
