In 2020, Florida HB 1105 focused on developing respectful relationships amongst system partners, developing parent partnerships between birth parents and caregivers, and developing transition plans to support attachment and the developmental needs of children. This legislation unanimously passed and became effective July 1, 2020 in Florida Statute.

What is the goal of The Quality Parenting Initiative (“QPI”)? The goal of QPI is to ensure that every child who is removed from home by a child protection agency receives the love, nurturing, advocacy and support he or she needs for healthy development.

QPI, the Quality Parenting Initiative, is a national movement for foster care change, made up of a network of states, counties and private agencies committed to ensuring that all children in care have excellent parenting and lasting relationships so they can thrive and grow.

Launched in 2008 in Florida, today over 80 jurisdictions in 10 states have participated in the QPI approach. Three principles are at the core of our work: the prioritization of excellent parenting and meaningful, lasting relationships; the use of research; and putting those with lived experiences at the center of our work.

One of the key ways the QPI supports these foster families is by pro-viding in-depth training to help them manage the challenges they face.
