The Fann Electrical Stability Tester, Model 23E is a portable instrument that measures the electrical stability (ES) of an oil-based drilling fluid. The EST conforms to the electrical stability test procedure that is described in API Recommended Practice for Field Testing Oil-based Drilling Fluids, API RP 13B-2.

The Fann Model 23E Electrical Stability Tester (EST) is a portable instrument that measures the electrical stability (ES) of an oil-based drilling fluid. The drilling fluid’s electrical stability relates to its emulsion stability and oil-wetting capability.

The Model 23E Electrical Stability Tester (EST) conforms to the test procedure described in API Recommended Practice 13B-2. It operates on external power or two nine volt batteries. The Model 23E is calibrated in peak volts which is the maximum voltage that the fluid experiences between the two electrodes.
