During mid-March, the easterly phase of the MJO managed to break through an area of persistent westerlies centered near 120W, with anomalous westerlies strengthening and expanding eastward beyond the Date Line. MJO activity appears less coherent over the Indian Ocean.

2005年12月12日 · A subgroup was organized to focus on MJO operational prediction and was tasked to develop a MJO forecast metric for comparison of dynamical models from operational global prediction systems. The decision was made for NCEP / CPC to host the application, display, and evaluation of these MJO model forecasts.

The MJO phase diagram illustrates the progression of the MJO through different phases, which generally coincide with locations along the equator around the globe. RMM1 and RMM2 are mathematical methods that combine cloud amount and winds at upper and lower levels of the atmosphere to provide a measure of the strength and location of the MJO.
