Since 2009, the K4M R8 engine has largely been installed in Lower mit-range models. It is a 1,6-liters-in-line engine with 4 cylinders that is used in various models of Abarth and Renault. The 110 PS variant was first installed in the Abarth Grand Scénic 1.6 16V 110 Expression Van in conjunction with a Manual gearbox.

In 1998, a 16-valve derivative of the K7M engine appeared in the Renault Laguna Phase 2, named the K4M. This new engine replaced the 1.8 litre F-Type engine fitted to the Laguna Phase 1.

The 1.6-liter 16-valve Renault K4M engine was first introduced at the 1998 salon and is still actively produced at a plant in Spain, Turkey, and since 2009 at AvtoVAZ.
