61st Infantry, Second State Color. The 61st was recruited in Pittsburgh during early fall 1861. It was composed of men from Indiana, Allegheny, Luzerne, and Philadelphia counties. The second state color was received in April 1863. The flag was retired from service in August 1864. The 61st was mustered out of service on June 28, 1865.

This wool national color carried by the 61st Regiment features 34 reverse-applique stars in six horizontal rows (6-5-6-6-5-6). Reportedly, Colonel Nelson Miles deposited this flag with state authorities in early 1863.
