The Fokker D.XXI fighter was designed in 1935 by Dutch aircraft manufacturer Fokker in response to requirements laid out by the Royal Netherlands East Indies Army Air Force (Militaire Luchtvaart van het Koninklijk Nederlands-Indisch Leger, ML-KNIL).

The Fokker D.XXI is a single-engine, single-seat fighter, a cantilever low-wing aircraft of mixed design with a fixed landing gear and an enclosed cockpit. Developed under the direction of Jiri Szatzki at the Fokker plant, first flight on March 27, 1936.

Designed by a team led by Dr-Ir Erich Schatzki and retaining traditional Fokker-type mixed construction, the D XXI was conceived in answer to a specification formulated by the KNIL (Koninklijk Nederlands Indisch Leger), the aviation element of the Royal Netherlands Indies Army, and was flown as a prototype on 27 February 1936.

De Fokker D.XXI (of D.21) was een klein jachtvliegtuig, dat door Fokker werd ontwikkeld in de jaren dertig. De D.XXI was bedoeld voor de onderschepping van vijandelijke vliegtuigen. Het toestel werd ontworpen voor het ML-KNIL, dat echter afzag van aankoop.

2011年6月17日 · Fokker offered two designs: the D.XIX, which was developed from the Fokker D.XVII, and new design, no 112 with a single low wing. Both were to be equipped with the Rolls Royce Kestrel IV. Design 112 could also be equipped with a radial engine. In the end the NEIAF chose design 112, which had received the Fokker designation D.XXI in November 1934.
