Fred Elf is a minor character in the series and the Wise Old Elf's son who primarily works as a labourer. He can most often be seen working at the the Elf Factory on a conveyor belt, and his father is often his workplace supervisor.

Fred is a loyal, brave elf in Santa's Workshop in the 1970 special The Great Santa Claus Switch. Fred foiled the evil Cosmo Scam and his evil plan to burglarize every house on Christmas Eve. He was the newest of Santa's Elves, which included Zippity, Skippity, Hoppity, Bing, and Bong. Fred can be identified by his frizzy orange hair.

Fred, performed by Jim Henson, was the only elf to realize that Santa had been replaced by an evil twin, Cosmo Scam, who was bent on filling the workshop with monstrous Frackles and ruining Christmas.

Fred Claus is a 2007 American Christmas comedy film directed by David Dobkin, written by Dan Fogelman from a story by Fogelman and Jessie Nelson, and starring Vince Vaughn, Paul Giamatti, Miranda Richardson, John Michael Higgins, Elizabeth Banks, Rachel Weisz, Kathy Bates, Trevor Peacock, Ludacris, and Kevin Spacey.

Magical Fred returns a year later and paints his face in a freaky way. He claims he is a Halloween elf and begins to act strange and falls in love with Shirley Temple. When they give him candy, he takes mustard and writes U SUCK on their table, goes fishing in their fish tank, spills sugar on their floor, and writes a mean note.
