Fudds aren’t gun Luddites, or even an innocent split between users of sporting vs defensive arms. The essential characteristic of the Fudd is, and has always been the willingness to throw defensive and tactical gun users under the bus, both as socially illegitimate gun users, and as political expendables.

In essence, fudds are the gun version of superstitious folks who constantly nag about ridiculous things that they have not spent any time to verify scientifically (similar to concepts like "luck"). They stroke their ego via a yesman culture which is often perpetuated by legal status such as owning the only shooting range/store within 50+ miles.
