The General Electric CF6, US military designations F103 and F138, is a family of high-bypass turbofan engines produced by GE Aviation. Based on the TF39, the first high-power high-bypass jet engine, the CF6 powers a wide variety of civilian airliners.

2021年7月1日 · As of June 3, all CF6-6 engines, the original CF6 engine variant, are officially retired. These are some of GE Aviation’s oldest operating commercial jet engines, one of which had reached more than 49 years and 6 months of service before its final flight.

In 1969, the TF39 engine was designed to power the USAF C-5 Galaxy Transport aircraft. It was the first high bypass turbofan, and led to the development of the CF6 engine family. That legacy has now come full circle as the C-5 is re-engined with the CF6-80C2L1F.

The CF6-80C2 is a ubiquitous engine, with more than 3,200 units in operation and powering five widebody aircraft families. The General Electric (GE) CF6- 80C2 series is one of the most popular widebody engines in operation. The first engines were delivered in 1986 and there are still outstanding orders for 747-400s with CF6-80C2 engines.
