Built for the Erie Lackawanna as their 3316 to 3328, these thirteen 3,600 6-axle locomotives became Conrail 6587 to 6599. In November of 1979 they were renumbered to 6884 to 6896 in order to make room for more new C30-7A's. All were retired in December 1987 and returned to the lessor and are presumed scrapped.

U36C Phases. GE used a common body for the various U-boats, so this list is based on phases of the U30B. Phase II with the forward radiator intake mounted high had oil bath filters; low-mounted intake was for paper air filters. Phase IId- horizontal drip rail on the radiator disappears. Phase IIe- built-up area on pilots disappears.

In 1969 GE succeeded in bringing the 7FDL with 16 cylinders to an output of 3,600 hp. The first model was the U36B with only four axles, which was intended for fast freight trains.
