GEC is the most popular name for General Electric Co.Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London WC2. They used the Trade Names GECOPHONE for their Wireless equipment and GECOVALVE (or Geco) for the valves. Therefore the Brand Name Gecophone is often mistaken for the Company, and widely used.

GEC sets are very easy to date, with only one or two exceptions. Up to 1949 the first two digits of the model number are the model year. After 1950, the model year is the sum of the first two digits added to the last two digits, so:-

GEC manufactured this 6 Valve table receiver in 1959. Housed in a two tone bakelite moulded case, this radio featured 3 reception wavebands, medium, long and VHF selected by means of a rotary switch. A ferrite rod aerial is fitted inside to improve MW & LW reception plus a wire diapole aerial for FM reception.
