GL-4 vs. GL-5? | BobIsTheOilGuy
2002年11月29日 · Mobil says that their GL-5 is good in all applications EXCEPT manual transmissions that call for GL-4 only. Oddly, they both told me that their GL-5 supersedes the GL-4. When I asked them how, since the GL-classification system is not a superseding system, they both told me that it IS a superseding system!
Using "limited slip" Castrol GL-5 -> same as using friction modifier ...
2020年11月11日 · The manual for my 2001 Dodge Ram (2-wheel drive, limited slip rear differential) calls for an 80W90 API GL-5 and also a "friction modifier" (about 50 ml). Castrol sells a gear oil, Axle Limited Slip 80W90 API GL-5, and says that it is for "cars, trucks, motorcycles, atv's, scooters". Regarding...
GL4, GL5, MT1 | BobIsTheOilGuy
2006年5月10日 · From what I understand MT-1 is from synchro-less (semi-)truck trannies. GL-5 is for rear diffs or anything with hyploid (90 degree) gears. And GL-4 is for regular trannies and transaxles. Some gear oils will say GL4/GL5, you can use these in a manual tranny. M1 says right on the bottle that it's a MT-1 and GL-5 rated. It's not for car trannies...
What makes GL6 requirements different than GL5?
2002年6月5日 · If it's for "shear stability" than any high quality synthetic gear lube rated GL-5 will be fully "shear stable." I believe Mobil 1 gear oil is based on their commercial MobilLube SHC, with a different additive package for Limited Slip applications. Or are you running extremely low ratios like 4.54 or deeper?? Just curious.
API GL-4 vs. GL-5 compatibility - Car Talk Community
2011年8月13日 · The SX4 MY09 owner manual strongly recommends the GL-4 75W90 gear oil. My dealer put the GL-5 (75W90) as the GL-4 was declared “obsolete” for North America!? Is it safe for the synchros/bushings? I do not believe so but need any expert’s opinion. There is a field in some technical data sheets labeled “Copper Corrosion - 1B”: is this the only specific …
GL4, GL5, GL6, what's the difference? | BobIsTheOilGuy
2002年6月5日 · GL-4 oils, when recommended are usually recommended for the transmission, where torque is much lower than in the differential, where the final gearing takes place - therefore the need for more protection of the GL-5/GL-6. If someone recommends GL-4 or higher, my take is that the they feel the extra additives won't hurt.
Updated List of MTF's (both GL-4 and GL-5) | BobIsTheOilGuy
2002年6月5日 · Dedicated GL-5 Hypoid differential lubes need higher viscosity base oils and usually contain no friction modifier, therefore aren't suitable for MT's. Dedicated GL-5 Hypoid differential lubes contain Extreme Pressure (EP) additives because of the higher loads on the gearing. Dedicated GL-4 MT lubes only need anti-wear (AW) additives.
75W-90 (OR 80w-90) GL5 DIFF FLUID WITH LSD | BobIsTheOilGuy
2018年6月21日 · Could this be as simply as buying any 80W-90 GL-5 (like Sam's club) in a 5 gallon bucket and adding 4 oz of LSD additive to the rear axle only? That would help me save on fluids for 4 trucks. I did do some research and many of the 80W-90 oils vary GREATLY on the kinematic viscosity indicies.
Diff of GM GL-4 and GL-5 rear Axle fluid? | BobIsTheOilGuy
2013年4月12日 · Sounds like even though they gave a number for what apparently is a GL-4 fluid. Being that it also spoke of the fluid being GL-5, and as well with all the documentation I have seen that has been made since then, that the above number for the 75W-90 GL-5 fluid is what I should use, should just go with that.
alternative to 75w85 gl5 in toyota tacoma | BobIsTheOilGuy
2015年2月25日 · my Tacoma truck requires using a 75w85 gl5 type gear oil in the differentials, since im limited to using either the Toyota brand gear oil or the redline lightweight 75w85s, what other gear oil would be the best close alternative to those.
