No. 203 was a class H4 2-6-0 steam locomotive that was built for the London and North Eastern Railway by Darlington Works in 1925. 203 & its siblings were mixed-traffic locomotives. Gresley designed and patented an unusual pony truck that featured swing links on the bolster above the center pin line and the one below. Two points on each bolster connected to the ends of arms above (upper bolster) and below (lower bolster). The system acted to equalize the weight on the two pony truck wheels, stabilizing and smoothing the ride.
