The EMD GP59 is a 4-axle diesel locomotive model built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division between 1985 and 1989. Power was provided by a 12- cylinder EMD 710 G3A diesel engine, which could produce 3,000 horsepower (2,200 kW).

2024年12月16日 · It is powered by a 16-cylinder, model 710G3A prime mover, capable of producing 3,800 horsepower. The locomotive was the last in the heralded General Purpose series, dating back to the iconic GP7 and GP9 of the postwar era.

Equipped with NS-designed split cooling system. Units meet EPA Tier 3 emissions standards. Units meet EPA Tier 0+ emissions standards.

The big spotting feature of course being the rounded cab and nose edges, plus the front cab windscreen was angled out. The dynamic brake housing was a phase I as well, which was different than the housing found on most GP59/60's. While I model the Milwaukee Road and will eventual do the GP59 demos which ran on the Milwaukee.

The EMD (Electro-Motive Division) GP59 is a type of four-axle, 12-cylinder, 3,000hp diesel locomotive built from 1985 to 1989. Only 36 were built exclusively for Norfolk Southern (NS), who was the only customer interested in the model.

The GP59E features a new EM2000 microprocessor, an all-new electrical cabinet with SmartStart auto start/stop, rebuilt 12-710G3C-BC prime-mover with EMDEC EUI system, NS-designed split cooling, the NS Admiral cab with cab signals, LSL, and CCB26 electronic brake valve.

The GP59 and GP60 are built on the same frame and have the same cab, but that's where the similarities end. The long hoods are totally different on account of the different size engines used in the two models. The NS GP60's have a 16-cylinder 710G3A engine, while the GP59's have the smaller 12-cylinder 710G3 engine.
