2005年9月23日 · Horn Installation on NYC GP-7 and GP-9. Does anybody know what was installed on these early geep locomotives delivered to the New York Central? Photos of GP-7s show a single horn on the engineer’s side (right side) of the long hood facing forward and a single horn on the fireman’s side (left side) of the cab facing back along the short hood.

Engines built in 1952 had horns behind the two exhaust stacks: 8500-8512 and 8797-8806. Engines built in 1953 had horns in front of the exhaust stacks: 8545-8587. I thought the GP9s all came with Leslie RS3L horns mounted forward of the dynamic brake blister.

Did the C&O use a slightly offset mounting position for the horns on its GP9 units? I ask because I recently got an Athearn Genesis GP9 and the horn seems to be in the right location on the short hood (engineer's side), but the bells of the five-chime horn are angled slightly toward the middle of the hood rather than firing straight ahead.

Photos of UP's fleet of GP9s when they were new show that their air horns were originally located at the top of the cab roof, at the centerline of the locomotive.

2018年11月11日 · As far as the Tsunami decoder, the complaints are mainly with the Tsunami I decoder which people complained of weak horns and the OEM version often did not have the correct horn for the model. Rio Grande experts complained the sound equipped GP9 from Genesis did not have the correct horn sound for the D&RGW GP9’s.
