Internal facelifting of the seats, steering wheel and badging took place prior to the official launch of the GT6 Mk3 (known at the GT6+ in the IS) in 1970. In line with the Spitfire MkIV, the tail was “chopped-off” and the bonnet flattened out.

1971 MKIII GT6 (rotoflex) KF1145L. Current owner acquired car as a true Barn Find. Found the GT6 in a barn in Tyler Texas in 2000. The car had been parked for some number of years due to a busted differential. 3 year restoration started in 2001 and finished 2004. Frame was sand blasted, dents pulled out and powder coated.

The final version of the GT6 was produced between 1970 and 1973 with 13,042 units built. It had a mid-life upgrade with a conversion to using the Spitfire MkIV suspension being introduced. In the U.S. the familiar problem of less power again hurt performance.

Jan 8, 2023 · A rise in top speed to 112 mph and a 0-60 blast that dropped below the magic 10.0secs to 9.8 secs. These performance improvements may have been a consequence of improved aerodynamics offered by the new nose. Driving the GT6 today is a step back in time for me as I make myself comfortable in the tiny cabin.
