2025年3月15日 · From what I have learned over the years, Midwest's problems started back when 4070 was still operational and the old CVL got behind on their lease payments to Midwest for the use of 4070 and train. It put them in a hole they are still working there way out of.

We pulled the 4070 out of the house and removed the Duplex stoker elevators and motor from the back head. Then we removed the Coffin feedwater manifold from the smoke box. We still have to remove the flue sheets but most of the work has been done on the front sheet.

Jensen outright refused. He rebuilt the GTW 4070 for then-owner Lou Keller. Unfortunately, Jensen's organization, Midwest Steam Railfan's Association, sponsored the fateful 4070 "overnighter" to South Bend. Today, the 4070 still has the Coffin feedwater heater. During the mid 1930's the GTW started a program of rebuilding hopper cars using pressed steel panels. These "kits" came as panels to be riveted or welded. The GTW chose to weld. The GTW car shops in Port Huron purchased the latest welding technology and assembled these cars by that method.

2025年3月20日 · Interestingly, it lists GTW 4070 as sold to the National Museum of Steam Propulsion in Chicago on the date of 6-27-61 and GTW 5629 as sold to the Railway Club of Chicago on 4-04-60. I was always under the impression that Lou Keller and Richard Jensen both bought their locomotives directly from the GTW. Does anyone have any insight for this reason?

I was browsing through an old "Northeast Rails" and saw pictures of GTW 4070 double heading with a Reading 4-8-4 in PA. Let's not get into the fact that I missed the chance to see this engine while it was in my own backyard.... What is the status of this engine? It was running and then "due to mechanical problems" it was retired.
