
GWR 1000 Class - Wikipedia
The Great Western Railway 1000 Class or County Class was a class of 4-6-0 steam locomotive. Thirty examples were built between 1945 and 1947, but all were withdrawn and scrapped in the early 1960s. A replica locomotive is under construction.

GWR 1009 was one of the five cabooses being used during a 1983 NRHS excursion over the Great Western. It was built in the 1920s for the Elgin, Joliet & Eastern and was acquired from the EJ&E sometime later. It would be sold to a private owner and is currently located in Pierce, CO.

These were the ultimate locomotives in the development of the GWR two-cylinder 4-6-0 express engines and were descended directly from the 2900 Saint class. They were the last GWR passenger design built before nationalisation and they were a larger version of the 6959 Modified Hall class but the boiler was based on the LMS 8F 2-8-0 design.

While on the topic of cabooses hidden in Colorado, is the former Rock Island wood caboose still sitting off the Midland Expressway in Colorado Springs? It was on the grounds of what appeared to be a trash hauler. Anyone got a pic or two? Is it sitting on original trackage? thanks!
ABOUT | 1014 County Project
1022 was the first to be fitted with a double chimney (after the development locomotive 1009), being out-shopped in May 1956. The original 1014 'County of Glamorgan' was similarly fitted in November 1956 and would have appeared in the livery shown in the photograph.
