
GWR 6000 Class 6024 King Edward I - Wikipedia
6024 King Edward I is a preserved Great Western Railway (GWR) 6000 Class steam locomotive operated from 1930 to 1962 by the Great Western Railway and latterly British Railways hauling express passenger services.
6024 King Edward I - Preserved British Steam Locomotives
Built at GWR's Swindon Works in June 1930, for most of its working life it was allocated to Plymouth Laira shed. Transferred to Old Oak Common, London, in March 1959, and finally to Cardiff Canton in 1962. 6024 was fitted new cylinders and in November 1957, with its chimney and blast-pipe modifications.
Steam Locomotive Information
The ex GWR King Class 4-6-0 No. 6024 "King Edward I" was steamed for the first time since April 2012 on the 4th of August 2022, for its steam test which the locomotive successfully passed. Now in the final stages of its overhaul, it is expected that No. 6024 will be operational in the Autumn for testing and running in trials.
