The USGI ECWCS Parka is the first development of the ECWCS system. The parka and trousers serve as the windproof, waterproof layer to protect the first three layers in the system.

The first generation ECWCS consisted of parka and trousers plus 20 other individual clothing, handwear, headwear and footwear items which are used in various combinations to meet the cold weather environmental requirements of the US military (and others).

The ECWS generation 1 parka is waterproof and breathable, and designed with features such as non-freeze zippers and inside snow skirts, which make it ideal for layering and being active in extreme cold weather. These are great winter parkas and can be adapted for different temperatures by combining with other components in the ECWS system.
