Gaia BH1 - Wikipedia
Gaia BH1 (Gaia DR3 4373465352415301632) is a binary system consisting of a G-type main-sequence star and a likely stellar-mass black hole, located about 1,560 light-years (478 pc) away from the Solar System in the constellation of Ophiuchus. [4]
ESA - Gaia discovers a new family of black holes
2023年3月30日 · Using data from ESA’s Gaia mission, astronomers have discovered not only the closest but also the second closest black hole to Earth. The black holes, Gaia BH1 and Gaia BH2, are respectively located just 1560 light-years away from us in the direction of the constellation Ophiuchus and 3800 light-years away in the constellation Centaurus.
The enigmatic origin of two dormant BH binaries: Gaia BH1 and …
2024年3月20日 · Abstract: The two systems, namely, Gaia~BH1 and Gaia~BH2, that have been confirmed as dormant (i.e., no X-ray emission detected) black hole (BH) - low-mass star binaries in the latest Gaia mission data release (DR3) are intriguing in the context of their formation and evolution. Both systems consist of $\sim9$ $\mathrm{M}_{\odot}$ BH and $\sim1 ...
Astronomers Discover Closest Black Hole to Earth
2022年11月4日 · Cambridge, MA – Astronomers have discovered the closest black hole to Earth, which the researchers have dubbed Gaia BH1. The dormant black hole weighs about 10 times the mass of the Sun and is located about 1600 light-years away in the constellation Ophiuchus, making it three times closer to Earth than the previous record holder, an X-ray ...
Record breaker! Newfound black hole is closest known to Earth
2022年11月4日 · The newfound object, a stellar-mass black hole called Gaia BH1, resides in a binary system whose other member is a sunlike star.
Scientists Spot Closest Known Black Hole to Earth in Our Cosmic ... - CNET
2022年11月8日 · Gaia BH1 is dormant, 10 times more massive than our sun and located about 1,600 light-years away in the constellation Ophiuchus (the serpent-bearer). The team behind the discovery says it's three...
Closest black hole is in our cosmic backyard - EarthSky
On November 2, 2022, astronomers using the Gemini North telescope in Hawaii said they’ve discovered the closest-yet black hole to Earth, dubbed Gaia BH1. The black hole is about 1,600 light-years...

In galactic terms, these black holes reside in our cosmic backyard.
New Record: Nearest Known Black Hole to Earth Discovered
2022年11月5日 · Located a mere 1,560 light-years away from Earth in the constellation Ophiuchus, the black hole, named Gaia BH1, is three times closer to us than the previous record-holder. The new study, which includes data from Keck Observatory’s High-Resolution Echelle Spectrometer (HIRES) and Echellette Spectrograph and Imager (ESI), is published in the ...
Dynamical formation of $Gaia$ BH1 in a young star cluster
2023年6月22日 · Here, we explore the hypothesis that Gaia BH1 formed through dynamical interactions in a young star cluster (YSC). We study the properties of BH-main sequence (MS) binaries formed in YSCs with initial mass 3 ×102 − 3 ×104 M ⊙ at solar metallicity, by means of 3.5 ×104 direct N -body simulations coupled with binary population synthesis.
