The EMD GP59 is a 4-axle diesel locomotive model built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division between 1985 and 1989. Power was provided by a 12- cylinder EMD 710 G3A diesel engine, which could produce 3,000 horsepower (2,200 kW).

This project entails rebuilding NS's 36 unit GP59 fleet, 33 units ordered by NS plus the three EMD Demos. As of September 2013 four of the 33 planned rebuilds have been outshoped from Juniata. The rebuilt units receive EM2000 microprocessors, AESS, and new electrical.

The GP59E features a new EM2000 microprocessor, an all-new electrical cabinet with SmartStart auto start/stop, rebuilt 12-710G3C-BC prime-mover with EMDEC EUI system, NS-designed split cooling, the NS Admiral cab with cab signals, LSL, and CCB26 electronic brake valve. The GP59E is set up to operate with NS class RP-M4C road slugs.

NS started a program to rebuild them originally into GP59E's, and now GP59ECO's. However, all unrebuilt GP59's were purged from the roster in 2020. In late 2022, NS started renumbering remaining units from their 46xx numbers to 66XX numbers to make room for more AC44CM6's

Good Condition. Runs very noisy but smooth. Non powered dummy unit. No damage.
