In iBC, GPR87 knockdown leads to decreased expression of fibrosis related genes, proteins and microRNAs. GPR87 stimulation with LPA leads to the opposite results.

Using single-cell RNA sequencing of enriched EpCAM + lung cells of the distal IPF lung, we identified G-protein coupled receptor (GPR) 87 as a marker of distal bronchioles and KRT5 + basal-like cells in IPF.
Results: Reanalysis of the LGRC data revealed that GPR87 was significantly increased in IPF tissues (fold change 12.1, FDR adjusted P<0.001) and expression was inversely correlated with forced vital capacity r=-0.56, p<0.01, and diffusion capacity r=-0.61, p<0.01.

Here, we report G-protein coupled receptor (GPR) 87 as a marker of distal bronchioles and KRT5 + basal-like cells in IPF. We generated single cell transcriptomes from EpCAM + cells isolated from parenchymal lung tissue from three IPF patients and three age-matched healthy donors.
GPR87 knocked out (KO) mice obtained from Cyagen, as well as wild type mice, were injected with intratracheal bleomycin (2 u/Kg) and were sacrificed 21 days later. Results: LPA treatment of iBC increased expression of fibrosis related genes, including GPR87, CDH2, MMP7 (1.3, 1.25, and 1.5 folds, respectively.)
