In this review, we focus on a preparation technique for GUVs that encapsulate water-soluble materials and/or water-dispersible particles. It is based on the centrifugation of a water-in-oil emulsion layered on water and does not require special equipment other than a centrifuge, which makes it the first choice for laboratory use.
In this review, we describe an application of the single GUV method to studies on interactions of peptides with lipid membranes, especially interac-tion of antimicrobial peptide magainin 2 with lipid membranes. We show new valuable information on the magainin 2–induced leakage of internal contents of liposomes and pore formation in lipid membranes.
