Jointly administered by HBS and the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, the Ph.D. in business administration grounds students in disciplinary theories and methods and trains them to apply these theories and methods in academic research on important business problems.

Jointly administered by HBS and the Department of Economics in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, students in the program are both economics and business school students, receiving the benefits of a PhD from Harvard’s world-class Economics Department along with specialized access to HBS faculty and resources.

The Business Economics PhD program is offered jointly with the Economics Department at Harvard Kenneth C. Griffin Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and the Harvard Business School. This PhD program trains you for research and teaching careers at business schools, discipline departments, and governmental agencies.

During their time in the PhD program, HBS doctoral students will take courses at HBS and in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. Students collaborate with Harvard Business School and Harvard University faculty on research, writing, and teaching.

Harvard Griffin GSAS has offered PhD programs in collaboration with HBS since 1916. In addition to business administration, Harvard Griffin GSAS and HBS collaborate on programs in business economics, organizational behavior, and health policy (management track).

Scholars in the doctoral program in Organizational Behavior at Harvard Business School are prepared to pursue an interdisciplinary inquiry into issues that are broadly related to the functioning of individuals within groups, at either the micro or macro level.
