September 1st 1967 marked the beginning of one of the most storied periods in US Naval Aviation History with the establishment of Helicopter Combat Support Squadron SEVEN (HC-7), the "SEADEVILS". HC-7 entered the vertical replenishment (vertrep) mission through a rather roundabout method. In 1964, the Navy acquired the UH-46A Sea Knightas a replacement for the UH-34D/E. The first aircraft were assigned to HC-4, the Navy’s only vertical replenishment squadron, at NAS Lakehurst in 1966.

Helicopter Combat Support Squadron (HC-7) was formed during the Vietnam War and its primary mission was combat search and rescue (CSAR). Their mission is not for the faint of heart. CSAR is often dangerous and requires persistence to get the downed airman out of danger.
