The HAL HJT-36 Yashas (lit. 'Glory') is a subsonic intermediate jet trainer aircraft designed and developed by Aircraft Research and Design Centre (ARDC) [2] and built by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the Indian Air Force and the Indian Navy. The HJT-36 will replace the HAL HJT-16 Kiran as the Stage-2 trainer for the two forces. [3]

HJT-36是一种与中国K8同级的中级教练机，于1997年开始设计，1999年印度空军正式与HAL签订合同，HJT-36原型机PT-1在2003年3月7日首飞，2009年进入低速生产，已交付12架低速生产型，原定2010量产。

HJT-16光线教练机是印度斯坦航空公司在20世纪60年代研制的亚音速教练机，1964年首飞，1973进入印度空军服役，它和HF-24风神战斗机是印度研制成功的仅有的两种国产飞机。 30多年来，HJT-16光线教练机是印度空军飞行训练部队的主力，累计飞行达75万小时。

2007年9月17日 · The HJT-36 Sitara intermediate jet trainer is being developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL). Construction of the first HJT-36 prototype, the S3466, started in 2002 and it completed its first flight in March 2003. The second prototype aircraft, the S3474, completed its first flight in March 2004.
