2025年3月7日 · General Electric’s (GE) U25B diesel locomotive was the first of a series of four- and six-axle U-boats that helped the company make a name for itself. GE had been involved in diesel technology back to the pioneering Boxcab of the early 20th century, which is partnered with Alco and Ingersoll-Rand.

The U25B was General Electric's entry into diesel locomotive manufacturing as an independent builder. The company, however, was no stranger to locomotive production.

The General Electric Model U25B diesel-electric locomotive is especially designed and built to meet the requirements of modern high-speed freight traffic. The design provides for high horsepower per axle with a minimum of equipment and weight. A low nose (short hood) and large windows are provided for maximum visibility.

Burlington Northern Railroad U25C #5603. The U25C is a diesel locomotive built by General Electric intended for the United States domestic market. Launched in September 1963, it remained in production until December 1965. It was replaced by the U28C.

Available in both high-nose and low-nose variants, GE would sell over 450 U25Bs to a variety of Class I railroads. The U25B would pave the way for future Universal series locomotives. Many U25Bs lasted into the early 80s on some Class I railroads, others would find their way onto short lines such as TTI.
