Research Ethics Service and Research Ethics Committees
The Health Research Authority and the Devolved Administrations provide a Research Ethics Service so that research proposals relating to their areas of responsibility can be reviewed by a Research Ethics Committee (REC). Research Ethics Committees protect the rights, safety, dignity and wellbeing of research participants.

The aim of this decision tool is to help you decide whether or not your study is research as defined by the UK Policy Framework for Health and Social Care Research. It is based on the Defining Research table produced by the Research Ethics Service. You will be presented with a short series of YES or NO questions.

Information held in HARP is held securely and confidentially. Access to HARP is restricted to authorised users.

2025年1月2日 · When a research application is submitted to the Health Research Authority sometimes it is reviewed by a Research Ethics Committees (REC). Every year the volunteers that make up the committees review thousands of research applications and amendments to studies and provide an opinion on the application.
Studies that require HRA approval, will need to submit their application electronically via the Integrated Research Application System (IRAS). IRAS is used for applying for permissions and approvals required for health and social care research in the UK (e.g. HRA, CAG, MHRA).
