Half seven is the same as half past seven, with past simply missing. It's 7:30. Unlike German, where "halb sieben" would mean 6:30. In Dutch, "half zeven" is 6:30 as well. That's weird that it's the opposite in other languages, but it makes sense because it sounds like it could be either one. It's not very intuitive. Swedish is the same too.

For instance, halb sieben (literally “half seven”) means “half past six” (6:30) in German. The expression is thought of in a different way in British English. “Half five” is just a colloquial way of saying “half past five”, with the word “past” being implied, i.e. an hour more than speakers of other languages would assume.

2012年10月23日 · In American English, at least, half past is the standard idiom and saying half to would mark you as a poor student of English.

2022年9月24日 · Half two is 2:30. It's a UK expression and usually confusing to US English speakers. In US English we would say two thirty or half past two.
