Hospital-acquired (or nosocomial) pneumonia (HAP) is an important cause of morbidity and mortality despite improved prevention, antimicrobial therapy, and supportive care [1]. The treatment of non-ventilator-associated HAP (nvHAP) and ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) will be reviewed here.
No history of hospitalization AND receipt of IV antibiotics in last 90 days and no prior respiratory isolation of MRSA or Pseudomonas aeruginosa Azithromycin and doxycycline monotherapy for outpatient CAP is no longer recommended due to high levels of Streptococcus pneumoniae resistance at SHC.

The major goals of this evidence-based guideline for the management of HAP, VAP, and HCAP emphasize early, appropriate antibiotics in adequate doses, while avoiding excessive antibiotics by de-escalation of initial antibiotic therapy, based on microbiologic cultures and the clinical response of the patient, and shortening the duration of ...

HCAP is defined as pneumonia in a non-hospitalized patient with healthcare contact and at least one of the following risk factors: home infusion therapy or wound care within the prior 30 days, residence in a nursing home or other long-term care facility (LTCF), hospitalization in an acute care hospital for two or more days within the prior 90 ...

Guideline-Based Antibiotics and Mortality in Healthcare …
Guidelines recommend administration of antibiotics with activity against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa for treatment of healthcare-associated pneumonia (HCAP). It is unclear if this therapy improves outcomes for …
