The Heinkel He 162 Volksjäger (German, "People's Fighter") is a German single-engine, jet-powered fighter aircraft fielded by the Luftwaffe late in World War II. Developed under the Emergency Fighter Program, it was designed and built quickly and made primarily of wood as metals were in very short supply and prioritised for other aircraft.

2017年7月16日 · The Heinkel 162 series was a last-ditch effort by the RLM to stop the destruction of Germany’s industries, transportation system and energy distribution by Allied bombing. The project began in September of 1944, with the prototypes first flown in December. The He-162A versions were mostly wood construction, with the single turbojet engine.

The He 162 was a tiny shoulder-wing, single seat, single engine monoplane powered by a BMW 003E turbojet mounted atop the fuselage aft of the cockpit. It could attain 522 mph at 19,700 feet with a range of 410 miles — translating to an endurance time of about 30 minutes.

He 162 D — Proposed upgrade similar to C-series but dihedraled forward-swept wing. He 162 E — Proposed upgrade with the BMW 003R + BMW 718 liquid-fuel rocket engine. He 162 S — Two-seat training glider version.
