Hou Yin was a minister serving under Dongli Gun, the Grand Administrator of Nanyang. In AD 218, following the formation of the Kingdom of Cao Wei, Hou Yin rebelled in Wan Castle to save his people from falling under the influence of Cao Cao. He was aided by Liu Bei, the King of Shu Han, sending Guan Yu to help the peoples of Nanyang.

Hou Yin's Rebellion occurred in 219 AD when Cao Cao's officers Hou Yin and Wei Kai rebelled against their former lord at Wan Castle in Jing Province. Cao Cao sent Cao Ren and Pang De to crush the uprising, and they succeeded in doing so before Guan Yu's reinforcements could arrive.

Hou Yin's Forces were a rebel army who took over Nanyang from Wei in AD 218 following the formation of the Three Kingdoms. Despite aid from Liu Bei, they were eliminated.
