We befell ourselves due to greed, jealousy, etc. Also, if you translate Mann from German to English, it is "man" which adds a bit more credence to this argument.

2023年3月9日 · Mann could have easily just fessed up, told Cooper and the others the planet was a sham and not viable and they needed the ship to move on. That would have meant Cooper would have to face the decision earlier that they need all resources to get to Edmund's planet and give up on going home - a point he gets to later on in the movie.

I pirated a cam copy after seeing it at the cinema and that cam copy says 'Dr Hugh Mann' too, but my Blu-Ray only says Dr Mann. I thought it was clever symbolism. I made a thread about it and other fun trivia that people might've missed.
