2012年6月27日 · I've had difficulties tillering my copy of a hupa style bow. It's now eventually looking good tiller wise. It's one of the smallest bows at 36" and the wood is Hawthorn (which is an excellent bow wood in my opinion). The wood is 1" 3/4" at widest and is now probably about 1/8" thick. 3 layers of sinew are laid on its back.

2023年8月20日 · This short bow (50 inches) is made from hickory. I stained it a reddish brown to resemble juniper or cedar. It is backed by elk sinew and painted in a Hupa-style pattern. The tips and grip area are decorated with rabbit fur. It pulls 48 pounds at 26 inches.

2008年7月12日 · I'm working on such a bow right now that I so far I've pigeon holed (VERY loosely) as Hupa, based on limb design and tips shown in TBB. Bows,arrows,and quivers of the american frontier by John Baldwin has lots of photos of bows from West Coast. A very good source for actual pics of native designs.

Hupa bow (pl. 4, fig. 15). A typical California Indian bow, made of a good quality of yew, broad and flat in the limbs, heavily backed with sinew, and having nocks formed of overlapping and circular bands of the same material. It is strongly reflexed. The handgrip is of buckskin thong bound about the center.

Bow made of yew, broad and thin in the middle and tapering toward the ends, which are turned back. The nocks are wrapped with buckskin and trimmed with strips of otter skin.
