2025年2月1日 · Due to the lack of an effective self-propelled gun (SPG) in US service, in October 1941, Major General Jacob L. Devers recommended the development of a 105 mm howitzer motor carriage (HMC) based on the M3 Medium Tank chassis. This led to the creation of the T32 prototype, which underwent rigorous testing and modifications to address various issues.

Suspension was changed by the use of the stronger HVSS from mid-1944. HVSS had twice the number of wheels per bogie and individual wheels could be replaced without removing the bogie from the hull. Tracks were wider and vehicles had track covers that extended beyond the hull.
