Oct 1, 2017 · New CPUs make very little heat, my i7-7700 ITX idles at 15W at the wall. Today's technologies are more efficient at any workload compared to CPUs from 10+ yrs ago. The i7-7700 is no exception, problem is the laws of thermodynamics, it's a smaller die = smaller surface for heat transfer + the IHS is trapping heat due to the crappy TIM.

It has an i7-7700, 16gb of DDR4 ram, a 180watt psu (*note the psus in these units are proprietary) and I replaced the smaller ssd that came in it with a new crucial 500gb nvme ssd. I also added an evga gt 1030 gpu (the newer variant with ddr5.)

Feb 19, 2004 · While my workstation might handle those tasks just fine, my laptop would blow up trying to process those tasks. But my laptop works (almost) just as well as my desktop. So it must be doing all the work on the i7-7700, AMD GPU, and nvme os drive on my work machine.
