The IBM 700/7000 series is a series of large-scale (mainframe) computer systems that were made by IBM through the 1950s and early 1960s. The series includes several different, incompatible processor architectures. The 700s use vacuum-tube logic and were made obsolete by the introduction of the transistorized 7000s.

7010 is a faster and exactly compatible version of 1410. The IBM System/360 Model 30 could be ordered with a 1401 compatibility microprogram feature. Several 1400 series peripherals were adapted for use with System/360.

Wanting to charge the higher rental rates IBM made some changes and developed the IBM 7010 by doubling the processing throughput. Also it offered floating point arithmetic and 2 additional channels as options.
