History of laptops - Wikipedia
Cambridge Z88 (1987) Another notable computer was the 8-bit Cambridge Z88, designed by Clive Sinclair, introduced in 1988. About the size of an A4 sheet of paper as well, it ran on standard batteries, and contained basic spreadsheet, word processing, and communications programs.
Ranger Disk 2 - Firshman
RangerDisk2 gives users the benefit of handling large volumes of data without requiring a dedicated PC to act as host to the Z88. The combination of Z88 and RangerDisk2 can be regarded as a highly flexible alternative to the PC itself in many applications.
Welcome - Cambridge Z88 - Jira
The Z88 was the final computer in the Z80 CPU "series" that Clive Sinclair created with the team of designers and engineers that also were famous for the ZX-80, ZX-81 and ZX Spectrum. The object of this project is to streamline the operating system, OZ and to build new applications by replacing the built-in ROM with a larger device.

Z88: Forerunner of modern notebook PCs - technofileonline.com
The Z88 holds the honor of being the world's smallest laptop computer. It's the same size as a standard magazine, and not much fatter: 8 ½ by 11 inches and only an inch thick. And yet it is, in many ways, as powerful as a desktop computer.
MSDOS Commands – z88dx
Using plain old DOS commands on a PC, with a Z88 and a special serial cable, you can transfer files back and forth, print through the PC to a printer and replace the PC screen and keyboard by using the Z88 as a terminal to the PC.
There are two reasons for transfering files between a Z88 and another system. One is to backup Z88 files because permanent file storage on Z88 EPROMs is expensive. The other is to use the transfered data on the other system. These two reasons have been the driving force for the design of over 70 file transfer programs.
