Illinois Central 2613 was a 4-8-2 "Mountain" type 2600 class steam locomotive built in April 1943 by the Illinois Central Railroad's Paducah Shops in Paducah, Kentucky. No. 2613 and its classmates were the most powerful 4-8-2 locomotives ever built.

Number 2613 was used on the L&N Centennial between Louisville and Nashville on Oct 24, 1959. It also ran two excursions out of Louisville in 1960. On May 14th it went to Paducah and returned. On October 2nd it went to Dawson Springs and returned. It was kept in the Paducah roundhouse and was in freight service in the Paducah area a few times.

Engine number 2613 was selected to haul the L&N's Centennial train on October 14, 1959. Afterwards this engine was used on a few freight trains before hauling the ICRR’s ‘Farewell to Steam’ excursion in 1960.

3 天之前 · The locomotive pictured, 4-8-2 No. 2613, was briefly loaned to the L&N for this particular event because the L&N no longer owned any serviceable steam locomotives. After the event the 2613 was returned to the IC, saw a brief second career in freight service, and was finally scrapped after a failed preservation attempt.
