Impaired glucose tolerance and impaired fasting glycaemia: …
Both IFG and IGT are associated with a substantially increased risk of developing diabetes, with the highest risk in people with combined IFG and IGT. Because IGT is commoner than IFG in most populations it is more sensitive (but slightly less specific) for identifying people who will develop diabetes.

In the UK there is currently no national screening programme for diabetes mellitus or IGT/IFG. As described earlier, the prevalence of IGT/IFG in the UK is poorly characterised, with estimates ranging from 3% to 18%. The recognition and diagnosis of IGT/IFT in primary care in the UK has not, to the best of our knowledge, been reported previously.
Impaired Glucose Tolerance and Impaired Fasting Glycemia

Impaired fasting glucose and impaired glucose tolerance in …
Glucose tolerance was categorized as normal, isolated IFG, isolated IGT, IFG + IGT and diabetes using the fasting and 2-h blood glucose (2hBG; 75-g glucose load) values. Subjects with known diabetes were excluded. Results: Age-standardized prevalences of IFG, IGT and newly detected diabetes were 8.7%, 8.1% and 13.9%, respectively.
