2008年7月2日 · this 345 cuin V8 was a very durable engine. Long life, low rpm, gas hog. I worked for an electrical utility and drove IH travelall, travelette and pickups. Never had one to have serious engine troubles. Never had to open engine for repairs.

If you are contemplating a changeover to a more modern transmission (such as nv4500 or 4l60), then yes, that can be done if your budget is large enough. Understand cracks in the heads, (per mm) as well as cam bearing alignment, differences in head gasket thickness, etc. I've assembled plenty of non-IH engines, so I get the basic process. The 345 is stock, stamped (345e) and has matching serial numbers to the build sheet.
