ISPM 15: The international standard for solid wood packaging
ISPM 15 applies to coniferous (softwood) and non-coniferous (hardwood) raw wood packaging material. This includes pallets, dunnage, crating, packing blocks, drums, cases, spools/reels, bulk heads, load boards, pallet collars and skids.
ISPM No. 28 (Phytosanitary treatments for regulated pests, 2007) provides guidance on the IPPC’s process for approval of treatments.
Approved phytosanitary measures that significantly reduce the risk of pest introduction and spread via wood packaging material consist of the use of debarked wood (with a specified tolerance for remaining bark) and the application of approved treatments (as prescribed in Annex 1).
