The Astronomical Observatory of Brera (OAB) is one of the top level research institutes in the world and it is the most ancient scientific institution in Milan. In 1946 it became part of the scientific institutions of the new born Italian Republic and since 2001 it has become part of the National Institute of Astrophysics ( INAF ).

L’Osservatorio Astronomico di Brera (OAB), istituto di ricerca d’eccellenza riconosciuto a livello mondiale, è la più antica istituzione scientifica di Milano. Dal 1946 è entrato a far parte delle istituzioni scientifiche della Repubblica Italiana e nel 1999 è confluito nell’Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica ( INAF ).

Oggi l’Osservatorio Astronomico di Brera (OAB) fa parte dell’Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica (INAF) ed è un centro di ricerca d’eccellenza riconosciuto a livello mondiale. Fin dalla fondazione mantiene la sede in Palazzo Brera, a Milano, dove conserva un prezioso archivio storico e una biblioteca antica di circa 35000 volumi.

2020年2月1日 · In the contest of the development of the optics for the ground based Cherenkov telescopes, the INAF-OAB designed and installed ad-hoc characterization facilities: an open-air user-friendly facility for the qualification of spherical mirrors with long radius of curvature and a deflectometry facility for the testing of free-form segments.

The Brera Astronomical Observatory (INAF-OAB) provided the optics for the X-Ray Telescope (XRT) and built a small rapid reaction automatic optical-infrared telescope, REM, dedicated to monitor the prompt IR/optical afterglow of gamma-ray bursts.
