Jagdschwader 3 "Udet" was formed on 1 May 1939 in Bernburg/Saale from JG 231. JG 3 was one of the Luftwaffe' s fighter units that took part in the Battle of France. A particularly fruitful period over France occurred from 14 to 17 May 1940.
