Jidokwan is one of the original nine schools of the modern Korean martial arts that became Taekwondo and was founded in what is now South Korea at the end of World War II. Its name translates as "School of Wisdom".

Jidokwan, along with Moo Duk Kwan, acting as the main role of modern Taekwondo in Korea. Especially Jidokwan’s unique and intensive training, one would have to defeat three straight competitors to have belt promotion, made the birth for the great athletics for this period.

What is Jidokwan? Jidokwan translates: Ji = Wisdom, Do = Way, Kwan = School So literally Jidokwan is the school of wisdom. Sometimes called the Wisdom School of Taekwondo. The Jidokwan school symbol is the double red circle that looks like a red snowman.

A long succession of highly regarded champions had Jidokwan training, and by the late 1960s—when the five leading Kwans and other less prominent schools began the process of unification into the organization that would become known as Taekwondo—Jidokwan was one of Korea’s leading martial arts styles.

After the Korean War and the mysterious disappearance, GM Chun’s students formed the Jidokwan and renew the hosun Yun Moo Kwan that was founded by G. GM Chun. JI= Wisdom. Do= Way. Kwan= School. Jidokwan as a new title was used for the first time in Busan in fifties.
