The supported vs unsupported barrel mostly applies to reloading spent cases from an unsupported barrel and the potential for the case to rupture AFTER being reloaded.

Your 158 grain is just as good maybe better. practice keeping your shots in the chest area of your target. Doesn't matter what you shoot if you miss the target. There are better projectiles, but use and shoot what you have.
