Julio Nakpil y García (22 May 1867 – 2 November 1960) was a Filipino musician, composer and a General during the Philippine Revolution against Spain. He was a member of the Katipunan, a secret society turned revolutionary government which was formed to overthrow the Spanish government in the Philippines.

2017年6月2日 · Julio Nakpil, whose birth is commemorated every 22nd of May and better known as the second husband of Gregoria De Jesus – Andres Bonifacio’s widow – was a musician, composer, and a general in the Philippine Revolution. Julio was born in Quiapo, Manila on 22 May 1867 to Juan and Juana Nakpil. He was the fourth of twelve children.

However, none of these figures have been so obscured by time as Julio Nakpil. The concert pianist turned secretary of the Katipunan documented the revolution in a unique way – through compositions, which ranged from heavily-ornamented salon music to grand orchestral works of great depth and promise.

Quite poignant was the rendition of Nakpil’s “Marangal na Dalit ng Katagalogan” as interpreted by Acapellago in the opening with arrangement by Joshua Cadelina.

On November 2, 1960, Julio Nakpil, a Filipino composer who also fought during Philippine revolution died at the age of 93. Julio served as a commander for revolutionary troops in the north of Manila under Andres Bonifacio.

2019年7月20日 · Julio Nakpil was a musician when he was called to join the Katipunan. He did not know how to fight nor knowledge of military science but he successfully led the Katipuneros of the north and was even successful in stealing substantial numbers of ammunitions from the Spanish in Morong which he sent to the Katipuneros of Cavite.

The pieces range from polkas and habaneras to mazurkas and gavotas, and demonstrate Nakpil’s musical maturity and ability to incorporate both European and native Philippine musical influences in his compositions.
